Джаві — це адаптована арабська абетка для малайської мови. Вона одна з двох офіційних систем письма в Брунеї, та має обмежене використання в Малайзії, на Філіппінах, Індонезії та Сінгапурі, головно в релігійній практиці.

Абетка Джаві використовувалась протягом століть у малайському світі (Нусантара), а її розвиток пов'язують з прийняттям Ісламу. Складається Джаві головним чином з арабських букв та кількох додаткових символів, властивих тільки Джаві, на додачу.


Система письма на основі Джаві є однією з найранніших, що використовувались для записів малайською мовою. Джаві використовувалась із часів ери Пасаі до часів Султанатів Малакка, Джохор та Ачех у XVII столітті. Докази цього виявлено в таблицях Терренґану (Batu Bersurat Terengganu), датованих 1303 роком (702 рік за ісламським літочисленням), тоді як найраніше використання латинської абетки датується кінцем XIX століття.
