Латинники




Колишня церква в Ганні, нині костел


Латинники або калакути — селяни й міщани римо-католицького обряду, що спілкувалися у повсякденному житті українською мовою. Складалися з двох різних категорій:


  • поляків, що асимілювалися в українському оточенні, але зберегли релігійну належність (менша частина);

  • українців, що перейшли до римо-католицької віри (переважна більшість, цей процес віками здійснювався польською владою як перехідний етап в ополяченні).

Були поширеними на Галичині, Підляшші та, меншою мірою, на Волині.


На Підляшші українців, що змінили східній обряд християнської церкви на латинський називали калакутами. Поява тут калакутів зумовлена російським і польським асиміляторськими впливами на уніятів Підляшшя і Холмщини в XIX — початку XX сторіччя.
